MICRO-CONFERENCE FOR TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS
Professional Training in the Age of AI
What skills do interpreters and translators need to stay competitive in the age of AI? What are the biggest barriers to further professional development? Does the current professional training really meet the needs of translators and interpreters?
The panel brought together experts from both professional practice and academia, including an international guest.
In partnership with Palacký University Olomouc (UPOL) and in co-operation with the Czech Association of Conference Interpreters (ASKOT), we organised a second micro-conference, this time on the topic of Professional Training of Translators and Interpreters in the Age of AI.
The discussion focused on the educational needs of professionals in both fields, not only in terms of technology, but also broader professional competencies. Topics included work practices, professional identity and relationship with clients.
The panel also addressed barriers to further professional development and examine the role of key stakeholders, in particular universities, professional organisations and other educational providers.
The event combined a panel discussion with short expert presentations.
The micro-conference took place in person and online.

Panellists:
Nune Ayvazyan
Nune is a researcher and lecturer in Translation Studies at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain, where she coordinates the Master’s in Professional English-Spanish Translation, member of the European Master’s in Translation. Her research examines AI in translator training, particularly how LLMs mediate comprehension, decision-making, and quality perception of translation trainees.
Dominika Winterová
Dominika is an English and Czech interpreter with Croatian as a “C” language and extensive experience in both the free market and European institutions. She currently serves as Chairwoman of the Czech Association of Conference Interpreters (ASKOT), where she also organises educational events. Dominika has taught interpreting at Palacký University in Olomouc and contributes externally to the EMCI programme at the Department of Translation Studies at Charles University.
Matouš Hájek
Matouš is an English and German translator and a doctoral graduate in translation studies from the Department of Translation Studies at Charles University. He is the co-founder and co-owner of the Explika translation agency. Matouš also serves as Chairman of the Association of Czech Translation Agencies (ACTA) and is member of the European Union Association of Translation Companies (EUATC).
Kateřina Newland Ešnerová
Kateřina is a Czech and English interpreter, accredited to work in EU institutions. She has over 10 years of experience teaching interpreting at the Department of Translation Studies at Charles University, where she also trains colleagues from partner universities.
CONFERENCE MODERATOR
Adéla Zummerová Kotasková
Adéla is a Czech and English interpreter, member of the ASKOT committee. Accredited for EU institutions since 2008, Adéla regularly provides interpreting services for the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, the European Commission and for clients on the private market.

The Professional Training of Translators and Interpreters in the Age of AI micro-conference was held in a hybrid format: in person at the Langhans Café and Centre in Prague 1, offering a pleasant setting for discussion and networking, and online.
